Brand Photoshoot: Four Elements Organic Herbals

Jane is the owner of Four Elements Organic Herbals, an organic herbal small business tucked up in the bluffs of North Freedom, Wisconsin. The branding photoshoot at her gorgeous herb farm and apothecary was part of a series with Compeer Financial featuring small agricultural businesses in its Emerging Markets program.

Jane’s love of herbal and organic remedies was evident the moment I met her – literally! Within the first few minutes of arriving at her farm, I accidentally got stung by a bee. Jane immediately went down to her yard, picked some leaves of plantain, and created an herbal poultice to spread on my sting site. Instant bee sting relief!

During our planning and styling call a few weeks before the photoshoot, Jane and I talked about her vision for the shoot. I learned all about Jane’s story, her values and the unique personality of the Four Elements Organic Herbals brand. We also created a detailed photoshoot plan, including locations and a list of authentic tasks that Jane and her employee, Liz, can do on the farm. This helped us create realistic photos that give people a rare behind-the-scenes peek into life at the herbal farm.

Our goal for the photoshoot was to create images that felt green, organic, beautiful, relaxed, and peaceful. It was exactly how I felt as I walked around her farm. From the light-filled greenhouse full of plants to the beautiful herb fields to the colorful, serene chakra garden, Jane’s farm was a gorgeous backdrop for her branding photoshoot.

The morning of the photoshoot was the first time Jane and Liz used the farm’s new engine-powered herb harvester, which was shipped in all the way from New Zealand! I’ll never forget the joy on Jane’s face as she and Liz cut the first row of Holy Basil. It was like a kid on Christmas morning!

Along with the farm fields, we captured images at the Four Elements apothecary in downtown North Freedom. This helped show the entire process – from the herb plant in the field to the final herbal oil, spray, or salve on the shelves.

I loved working with Jane and Compeer Financial on this brand photoshoot. Jane’s love of her business and the land were apparent throughout the entire shoot!

And now I can impress my kids with a quick poultice remedy the next time one of us gets a bee sting!
